On the way to help rescue a girl in need, Hercules and Iolaus come across a journalist named Parenthesis (Owen Black), who's about to be hung by some men who didn't take kindly to him writing about them. Parenthesis convinces Hercules and Iolaus to let him tag along. When arriving to save the girl, Hercules realizes she's in the "Cave of Echoes". Standing outside the cave, Hercules, Iolaus, and Parenthesis hear a loud roar from a "monster" coming from the cave. After Hercules and Iolaus enter the cave to rescue the girl, Parenthesis decides he's not going to just stand around and wait on them. So, he follows in behind them. Iolaus decides to leave a trail of string behind them, so that they can easily find their way back out again. The twosome hear more roars and the girl yell for help. Iolaus, thinking he can figure out how to locate the girl, decides to yell for her. Little does he know the mysteries of the cave until his yell reverberates back at him with enough power to knock him down, when along comes Parenthesis who was kind enough to pick up Iolaus' string trail for them. Hercules, Iolaus, and Parenthesis make their way through the caves as Hercules and Iolaus tell Parenthesis the highlights of their most exciting adventures; such as his fight with Antaeus the rock monster, the Hydra, the giant sea serpent, the gentle giant Typhon, Gargan the giant, Echidna, Xena, and others, with flashbacks of each. As they make their way closer and closer to the "monster", a rock slide temporarily slows them down. Hercules and Iolaus try to convince Parenthesis that he can change his life and become a "hero" in his own right. Then, Parenthesis makes the mistake of yelling in the cave. This time Iolaus knew to hold on, even though Parenthesis didn't. After the torch is relit, Parenthesis decides to push onward by telling them they're wasting time. Finally finding the girl and realizing that she's trapped her foot on a root just over the side of cliff, Hercules and Iolaus convince Parenthesis that he's the only one that can save her. They lower him down to free the girl, who got trapped while trying to save the "monster", which turned out to be a kitten named Zeus who journeyed into the deep part of the cave by accident. Parenthesis becomes the hero of the day and is sincerely thanked by both the girl and her father. Hercules and Iolaus are then being called to rescue yet someone else. |
