Synopsis:

The Enterprise has been chosen to be used to test the M-5 computer.   The M-5 will be installed and run the Enterprise during a series of wargames to see if it, and computers like it can be used for the more hazardous missions into deep space. Things quickly go awry when the M-5 starts to protect itself and fails to realize that the ships are in a wargame.   It decides to declare war on the Federation.

This episode demonstrates what all computer nerds (including myself) think will happen with the future of computers.   It also demonstrates why most of us, also including myself, are afraid of it.  When looking at things from the M-5's perspective everything it does is logical and ethical.   Still, it is also inhuman and terrifying.   This is another episode that can be used to stimulate a lot of debate about the use of automated decision making verses relying on flawed human judgement.
