Up the long Ladder Star Trek The Next Generation

Riker, Picard, a Clone and Worf

Synopsis:

When the Enterprise gets a very old distress beacon from a colony ship that's at least 240 years old, the Enterprise goes to Bringloid IV where they find half of the colonists from the colony ship SS Mariposa. These colonists are of Irish descent who followed a man on Earth at the time they left that believed in a more simple, agrarian life. They must be evacuated because of harmful solar flares. When the leader of the colony asks Capt. Picard if they heard word from the other half of the SS Mariposa's colonists, Picard has a double take. Not taking long, the Enterprise crew locates the other world of the Mariposa's colonists. Turns out that the Mariposa had technical difficulty and crash landed on the planet Mariposa. Only five of the colonists survived the crash, and so they turned to cloning themselves to keep them alive. But genetic "lapses" are starting to show up and the Mariposans need new DNA to keep their culture alive. They take cells from Commander Riker and Dr. Pulaski without their consent and start "growing" new clones. Riker and Pulaski beam down into the cloning chamber and kill the clones. Capt. Picard, the Mariposan leader and the Bringloidi leader comes to an agreement that the Bringloidi and Mariposans should mate to keep both cultures alive. At first, the Mariposans don't like the idea because the idea of sexual reproduction is repugnant to them, but they do agree and life goes on.
