Synopsis:

While the Enterprise is getting ready to transport some deadly plasma plague particles, Counselor Troi is impregnated by an alien being. This child matures at a surprisingly fast rate. She gives birth in only a few days. The child grows to be eight years old in only about two days. Meanwhile, the plasma plague being transported to Science Station Tango Sierra for research on how to cure it, which is thought to be contained well within the construct made by Geordi and his engineering crew, starts to grow. They soon find that it growing becuase of ichtner radiation, a radiation that can't made from anything on the Enterprise. If the plasma plague does not stop growing, it could break out of its casing and infect the crew of the Enterprise. The crew soon finds that the ichtner radiation is coming from Counselor Troi's son. He knows this as well and "dies." But the alien entity goes on its way, the only reason it did this was to experience life.

**This is the first episode of the second season. In this episode we see a lot of new changes. Worf is now wearing the standard gold security uniform, and he has a silver sash instead of the gold one he wore in the first season. The side walls of the Enterprise's bridge are no longer brown but the gray with the blinking lights that we see throughout the rest of the show. Counselor Troi has a new do (thank goodness) and new bunny suits. Geordi now wears a gold engineering uniform and is now the chief engineer of the Enterprise. And the ship gets a brand new doctor, Dr. Pulaski. And it may be interesting for you to know that this episode was one of the ones that was written for the Star Trek II series that never aired that had Uhura having the child.
