Synopsis:

Capt. Picard must learn a hard language to open up peace talks with the Jerada, and insectoid race that insists that the Federation opens the talks with their own language. With the stress of learning this language, Counselor Troi recommends that Capt. Picard take a break to the holodeck. He does, and enters San Francisco, 1941 as Dixon Hill, a private investigator. The good captain invites Data, Dr. Crusher and Mr. Whalan, an Enterprise 20th Century historian to join him. Once on the holodeck, the go off and enjoy the throes of 1941 Earth. Back in the 24th Century, the Enterprise is cruising along and a Jerada probe infests the ship, causing the holodecks to go awry, and Capt. Picard and company find themselves in a simulation with very dangerous villains-and with the holodeck safeties off! Capt. Picard must get out of the holodeck safely before the Jerada close all negotiations with the Federation or he could lose an important planet.
