The Daedalus class vessels were among the first to show the primary/secondary-warp drive section. The Daedalus class vessel was retired from service in 2196. Most of the information on the Daedalus class vessel is conjectural, so bear with us. :-) The reason for the Daedalus' slow speed is that it did not utilize the warp coil. This limited these ships to speeds of only warp 1 and as high as only 1.75 before the warp core overloaded and exploded.
