Worf

Worf - Lieutenant ( Klingone )Worf ( Michael Dorn ) is the first Klingon warrior to serve in Starfleet command and is also an influential figure in Klingon politics.   Worf was born on the Klingon Homeworld in 2340.   As a young boy he was quite fond of his pet targ.    He accompanied his parents to Khitomer outpost in 2346.   Worf was orphaned when that outpost was destroyed, and 4000 Klingons killed,  by a sneak Romulan attack.   His father was accused of aiding the Romulans and his family honor was stripped from him.   He was adopted by Sergey Roshenko, of the U.S.S. Intrepid,  who rescued him from Khitomer and his wife Helena.   Although it was believed that Worf had no remaining family in fact he had a brother Kurn.

Worf entered the academy with his step brother Nikolai but Nikolai dropped out since he didn't find Starfleet to be to his liking.   Worf found it difficult to fit in with humans but he graduated and was posted to the Enterprise D in 2361 as a Lt. JG serving as flight control officer.   Worf was promoted to Lt. and took over security following the death of Natasha Yar

Worf has a son, Alexander, through a liaison with a Klingon Ambassador K'Ehleyr.   When K'Ehleyr was killed by the Duras Alexander came to live with him.   Later he adopted another son through the ritual of R'uustal.  Jeremy Aster's mother had been killed on an away mission that Worf was leading.

Worf almost died from an injury which shattered his spine.  He was about to perform the Klingon Ritual suicide, Hegh'bat, when he was dissuaded.  A radical new treatment called genetronic replication was used to create a new spine.    Even so it was only due to Klingons physique and the fact that they have redundant organs and systems that allowed him to survive it.

Worf investigated a claim that his father was alive on the Romulan prison camp in the Carraya System.   He found that although there were prisoners there his father was not among them  He did fall in love with a half-Klingon woman named Ba'el but she decided to stay, along with most of the other prisoners, when Worf led the rest out.   By agreement the existence of Carraya has remained a secret from both the Federation and the Klingons.

In 2371 Worf was promoted to Lt. Commander.   After the destruction of the Enterprise D he took a year off to study for a year at the monastery on Boreth.  Then he accepted a posting to Deep Space 9 as Operations Officer.    This marked a change in his career path from operations to command.    Worf found living on the station uncomfortable so he moved his quarters to a stateroom on the U.S.S. Defiant.    Worf rescued General Martok from the Dominion and joined his household.   Worf developed a love for and eventually married Jadzia Dax, science officer on Deep Space 9.

Worf has played an important role in Klingon politics.  Although his family was dishonored by the ruling that his father had aided the Romulans Worf proved that it was actually Duras who had betrayed the empire.   The High Council suppressed the facts at the time since it would have split the empire.   The Empire split into civil war anyway when Duras died without an heir.   Capt. Jean Luc Picard was called in as the Arbiter of Succession.  When his decision fell to Gowron the Duras family, with aid from the Romulans, started a civil war.   Worf chose to side with Gowron and called on his brother Kurn to do the same.    Gowron was successful when the Federation stepped in to stop supplies coming in from Romulas to the Duras.   Worf's house was restored.   This was again removed when he refused to join the Klingon invasion of Cardassia.    Gowron made him personae non gratis and took his seat on the council away, removed his titles, and confiscated his lands.  Worf still has a lot of political clout on Klingon especially with his joining of the House of Martok.

Worf's hobbies primarily include combat simulations and building old Klingon sailing vessels in bottles.
