| preheat oven to 425 F [220 C]. In a double boiler (or microwave oven) melt: 1 lb [450 grams] semi-sweet (dark) chocolate 1 stick (8 Tbsp.) [110 grams] sweet butter add and mix in: 1 1/2 Tbsp. flour 1 1/2 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. water 4 egg yolks fold in: 4 stiffly beaten egg whites Bake in ungreased, floured 8'' round pan for 15 minutes (do not overbake). This recipe was from Ellen Back. I first tasted it at a tree planting in the early 1980's. People had spent the day out in the cold woodlands planting seedlings and had gathered to do ritual together to send energy to the new trees. This confection was offered for cakes and chocolate was promptly declared the sixth element after earth, air, fire, water and spirit. Russell likes to make two pans worth and put raspberries between the layers. You can only eat very tiny slices! |
