LorienWith reports of a thermonuclear detonation on Z'ha'dum, Ivanova battles with the League of Non-Aligned Worlds to maintain their forces on Babylon 5. Realizing the alliance is fracturing, the members of the league instead choose to tighten all defenses back on their respective homeworlds.

Now a member of the Centauri royal court, Londo returns to his homeland at the request of Emperor Cartagia. While there he gets a surprise visit from Mr. Morden, who is horribly scarred from the thermonuclear blast. Morden explains how the incident on Z'ha'dum has forced the Shadows to look for some outside support. In an effort to strengthen his power. Emperor Cartagia strikes a deal with the Shadows, allowing them a base of operations on Centauri Prime in the belief that they will grant him godhood, like the emperors of old. Londo, realizing the emperor is insane, instructs Vir to come at once to Centauri Prime. Upon his arrival, Londo explains to Vir how they must stop Cartagia before it's too late.

Delenn pleads with Kosh to send a force to investigate the whereabouts of Sheridan but Kosh Refuses. Meanwhile, G'Kar tells Zack that he is going to search for the missing Garibaldi, vowing to find him and bring him back to Babylon 5.

Lyta Alexander visits Ivanova and brings up the idea of taking a vessel to an area near Z'ha'dum so she can scan for any signals from the missing Captain Sheridan. Wanting to exhaust all possible resources, Ivanova goes along with the plan and takes command of a ship in the White Star fleet, along with Lyta, Delenn and Lennier. Nearing Z'ha'dum, Lyta focuses her telepathic powers, but is unable to pick up any signs of Sheridan. Now convinced that the captain is dead, Ivanova realizes she must complete the work he has started.
